Demonstration
by Pat Johnson
Pat demonstrated several small boards incorporating
various
mixed media techniques including acrylic mediums, caulking,
digital image transfers, scraffito, overlays, colored pencils, and oil pastels
as
a way to free our minds to think differently for future works.

Demonstration/Presentation:
Darlene
Belair demonstrated a unique method of making a picture frame
with drywall plaster or
patching plaster and artificial leaves and foliage;
then adding color
highlights to the leaves and foliage in relief !
Very creative and a great
gift to give with one of your own photos
or artwork in it!

Demonstration/Presentation
Monroe Artist Jennie Burt presented her
process for creating and painting murals.
Jennie is the owner of Tiger Quill Images
and Flying Tiger Werx and a past president
of the Monroe Art League.
In 2011 and 2012 she participated in the "Art Prize" contest
in Grand Rapids and is
one of 30 Michigan artists to participate in the 30x30 fundraiser for the
Arts for Kids Campaign in
Ann Arbor.

was Saturday, March 23rd. at the
Ann Arbor Art Center)

Our 'Member Show and Tell'
was very informative and educational
Many members brought a piece of
their work to demonstrate a perspective,
some described a particular technique and some showed new pieces
and/or new concepts they were working on.

Our presenter this month
will Be Diana Wallace Soisson who is a
colored pencil artist. She works with pastel-paper surface on an
Icarus Art Drawing Board with a heated element. (She will no doubt
explain to us what this means for her art.) Diana mentions
that one of her several "mentors" was Claude Monet, whom she
admires for his use of color, techniques, and closeness to nature.

Artists may submit one or two pieces for the $15.00 entry fee
Additional pieces are $10.00 each

War of 1812 Art Competition and Show
(July
27 to August 10, 2013)
IMPORTANT DATES:
Show:
The show will be at Ellis Library and Reference Center, Monroe
Michigan
and will run from Saturday, July 27 to Saturday, August 10.
Drop off:
Thursday July 25, 10 am to 6 pm
and Friday, July 26, 10 am to Noon.
Awards Ceremony and Artist Reception:
Saturday, July 27, Noon
Pick up:
Artwork not receiving ribbons may be picked up Sunday, August 11 or Monday,
August 12.
Winning artwork will be on tour of local libraries and public facilities after
the show.

Important note for 2013: The war of 1812 committee
is inviting any
adult artists who have previously entered in previous years to re-submit
their works. These re-submissions will be eligible for purchase awards,
but not for judging, ribbons or prizes.
