AT ELLIS LIBRARY BRANCH 

IN MONROE UNTIL MARCH 1, 2009 

 

    This contest was sponsored by the Monroe County Bicentennial Steering Committee, through the Monroe Art League.

The goal of this contest is to develop new artwork related to the 1812 River Raisin Battlefield and Bicentennial.

By entering the contest artists are giving the Bicentennial Steering Committee permission to use their artwork in any way that will benefit through advertising, brochures, postcards, etc.  Artist credits will be given whenever used.

There was no entry fee and entry forms (prospectus) were available at all 16 Monroe County Library System branch locations.

2009 Winners Announced 

The Monroe Art League conducted an awards presentation Saturday, January 17, 2009, at the Bedford Branch Library in Temperance.

Adult Division  Oil and Heavy Acrylic

Catherine Rehbein, first and second place; Frances Maedel, third place, and James Tidwell, honorable mention.

 

Adult Division  Water color and watered-down acrylics

Frances Maedel, first place; James Tidwell, second place; Irene Kuehnlein, third place; and Jan VanHouten and Irene Kuehnlein, honorable mentions.

High School Division Acrylic

Chelsey Harding, first place; Stephanie Blum, second place; Amanda Rogers, third place; and Ashley Charles and Heather Woods, honorable mentions.

 

Adult Division  Pastel and drawing

Frances Maedel, first place; Kathleen DiFigueiredo, second place; and Jane Degner, third place.

All entries will remain at the library for two weeks for the public to view. After the two weeks the winners will circulate through the county library system.

First-place winners in the adult division received $150, while first-place winners in the high school division received $75. Second-place in the adult division received $100 and third place received $50. Second place in the student division recived $50 and third-place received $25. Each winner received a ribbon.

Another art contest will be held next year and all high school and adult artists are encouraged to participate.
