Contest Sponsors and Purpose:
To encourage visual representations of the War of 1812 and 1813 Frenchtown through the works of local  and student artists.
This art contest is sponsored by the War of 1812 Bicentennial Steering Committee and the Monroe Art League.
It is designed to promote the War of 1812 Bicentennial, and also help promote the River Raisin Battlefield National Park.
 

Theme: 
Artwork must depict The River Raisin Battlefield and/or life in and around 1813 Frenchtown.  Settlers, Native Americans, military, battles,
  recorded incidents, and the war’s aftermath in the area are all appropriate subjects.  Authenticity is stressed in depiction of clothing, tools,
  weapons, architecture, topography, flora and fauna, battles, and locations of action scenes, etc.

Adult Eligibility:  Age 18 and over.

  Clay/Wood/Metal/Sculpting/Carving/Glass

All art contest activities take place at:

Ellis Library and Reference Center
Monroe County Library System, 
3700 South Custer
(Hwy 50) Monroe, MI 

Entry Information and Pickup Dates: 
There is no entry fee
Artists may submit up to three works
Contest Entries will be accepted at Ellis Library and Reference Center from 10 am to 4 pm  on Thursday, July 12
  and from 10 am to 2 pm on Friday, July 13th., 2012
Non winning entrants may pick up their work after the completion of the show on July 28th

Exhibits and Artwork on Display:  
Artwork will be on display at Ellis until  July 28th.   
All artwork must remain at Ellis until the show is complete.
After the conclusion of the show at Ellis, a traveling exhibition of award winning work will visit a number of locations around Monroe county,
 including various branches of the Library system and the Battlefield National Park Headquarters.
Information concerning the traveling exhibition scheduling will be available at a future date.

Requirements: 
All styles and techniques of art are acceptable. 
Entrants may submit up to three pieces.
The work must have been completed within the past year, created exclusively by the entrant, copied in no way,  with
limited instruction in class,
 appropriately framed and wired for hanging,
(no saw tooth hangers).
Glass covered pieces should not have sealed backs because removal from frame is necessary if a painting is to be photographed for promotional use.
There is a maximum size limit of 40" x 40" including frame. 
All work submitted must be available for purchase, clearly marked with price.
By submission, the artist agrees that by entering the contest, the artist permits reproduction of their work for promotional purposes
 by the Bicentennial Steering Committee or the River Raisin Battlefield National Park.

Use the form(s) below.  Tape to upper left corner of frame back, or underside of sculpture, pottery, etc.

Judging Criteria: 
Artwork will be screened for authenticity by a qualified authority on the War of 1812 who will determine entry acceptance.
Accepted artwork will then be judged on artistic merit.

Awards Ceremony and Artist Reception: 
Winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony to take place at Ellis at Noon on Saturday, July 14th.
Entrants are encouraged to attend and guests are welcome.
Cash Awards and ribbons will be awarded at this time.
Winners not present will be notified by phone. 

Adult Awards: 
 $150 first place, $100 second place, $50 third place. 
 Honorable mention certificates (as appropriate) may also be presented in selected categories.

Liability: 
Entries are submitted at the artist’s risk, although reasonable precautions will be taken to protect all artwork.
